Non-league side Hashtag United have made history – but with their eSports team. Their eSports division of the same name has made history, being the first team to recieve a transfer fee for one of their players.
Transfer fees are common among sports like football, as well as in other eSports like Fortnite and League of Legends. But in FIFA eSports, this is the first time one team has paid a fee to sign an opponents player.
The player in question is Tom Leese, who is one of the best FIFA players in the world. The Isthmian League North club recieved somewhere between £50,000 and £100,000 in return for Leese, who is considered one of the best players in the world.
Two clubs have made bids for the 22 year old eSports England International, who has yet to agree personal terms with either club. Leese recently won £20,000 for Watford in the ePremier League, and regularly makes upwards of £10,000 a month playing the video game.
Tom Leese trains up to 20 hours a day, honing his craft to become one of the best FIFA players in the world. It is expected that the money will be reinvested in facilities for Hashtag United, who are shooting up the leagues and aiming to become a proper Football League side.
