The Wrestling Observer Newsletter for the 3rd February 2022 has been released and in it are the long-awaited star ratings for AEW Dynamite.

Alongside the 2023 Royal Rumble star ratings, Dave Meltzer has complied his ratings for four of the matches on AEW Dynamite on February 1st, 2022.

The matches being rated are;

  • Jon Moxley vs. “Hangman” Adam Page
  • Konosuke Takeshita vs. Brian Cage
  • Bryan Danielson vs. Timothy Thatcher
  • Samoa Joe vs. Darby Allin

In this article we’ll look at the AEW Dynamite star ratings and go through why the matches achieved these ratings from long-respected wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, founder of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

AEW Dynamite Star Ratings

Jon Moxley vs Adam Page – 4.5 Stars

Dave Meltzer awarded the Jon Moxley vs Adam Page match from AEW Dynamite a 4.5 star rating. The match was a back and fourth match that had the crowd on their feet with lots of hard hitting action.

Moxley pinned Page with a roll-up to win the match, an ending that surprised many and let down even more. Both men looked upset at the ending, which could lead to a rematch at AEW Revolution in a Texas Death Match.

Konosuke Takeshita vs Brian Cage – 3.75 Stars

Dave Meltzer awarded the Konsuke Takeshita vs Brian Cage match from AEW Dynamite a 4.5 star rating. This was the first big win for Takeshita in AEW, as he has so far lost all the main event level matches he had in the company.

It also continues the renaissance of Brian Cage in AEW. He was frozen out of the company for over a year but has since come back in with some big matches against Takeshita and Bryan Danielson.

After nearly earning a 4 star rating for the match, Konsuke Takeshita is set to face off against MJF next week on AEW Dynamite.

Bryan Danielson vs Timothy Thatcher – 3.75 Stars

Dave Meltzer awarded the Brian Danielson vs Timothy Thatcher match from AEW Dynamite a 3.75 rating. The match a classic “British-style” match that harkened back to the days of Kendo Nagasaki in World of Sport.

Outside of a handful of suplexes and forearms, the match was mainly grappling between the two men. This is not Meltzer’s favourite kind of wrestling which explains why the match does not reach the 4 star mark.

Bryan Danielson won the match with a running knee in Thatcher’s debut in AEW. Thatcher was released by WWE in 2022 but could have earned a contract with AEW following this impressive performance.

Samoa Joe vs Darby Allin – 4.25 Stars

Dave Meltzer awarded the Samoa Joe vs Darby Allin match from AEW Dynamite a 4.25 star rating in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The bout saw Samoa Joe become a two-time TNT Champion, defeating the man who took the belt from his just weeks prior. The match was a no-holds-barred match, meaning weapons were not only encouraged, but allowed.
