Debate has raged about where England need Jordan Henderson, and how crucial he really is for England for Euro 2020. He has shown how crucial he is for the Liverpool. His side that won the Champions League and Premier League, and has been at the heart of both club and country for many years.
While some questions the Sunderland Born midfielders, ability, Liverpool Legend John Aldridge explains why he is so crucial.
“England have to take Henderson to the Euros and I can totally understand why Gareth Southgate has included him in the squad despite his injury,” Aldridge said in a recent interview.
“You get so much more from Jordan Henderson at this stage than just a midfielder. He has developed into a leader and that has been evident time and again over the last few years.”
“Southgate will know that he can be a positive influence around the young lads in the squad. He is good voice in the dressing room if they are struggling.
“Jordan is not just the captain of Liverpool at this stage, as he has been a leader among all the club captains in the Premier League and has become a real spokesman in the game.
“Henderson is also a fantastic midfielder and if England get to the latter stages of the competition and he can get himself fit, Southgate will know how important he could be.”
Injury Issues
Henderson has suffered injury problems this season, along with a lot of the Liverpool squad. He played on 21 games this season, with a good number of them being at centre back due to the defensive injury crisis at Liverpool this season.
Time will tell whether he will even be fit enough to partner Declan Rice in midfield, but Aldridge firmly believes Henderson is the right choice for England.
