Mercedes Mone Makes AEW Debut After Horrific Injury Stops NJPW Run

Mercedes Mone was shown on AEW TV for the first time, making her AEW Dynamite debut in a video package.

The former WWE star joined NJPW in January 2023, signing for the company after attacking KAIRI at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

She went on to defeat KAIRI for the IWGP Women’s Championship, showing the WWE exactly what they lost when she walked out the year prior.

Sadly, she suffered a broken ankle during a fall, as she wrestled Willow Nightingale for the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship at NJPW Resurgance this week.

Mone was meant to win the match (and the title), but the result was changed mid-match due to the injury, handing Willow Nightingale her first belt since signing for All Elite Wrestling.

When highlighting her incredibly fortuetous title win, Mercedes Mone made her debut appearance on AEW Dynamite, when she was shown as part of a video package of Willow Nightingale’s NJPW appearance.

They showed highlights of Williow Nightingale defeating Mercedes Money and winning the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship at Resurgence in the finals of the tournament.

Nightingale said that she’s proving just how STRONG she is, and indicated there was more to come from the women’s champion.

The video showed AEW fans that Willow was a force to be reckoned with, after a stop-start career in AEW has cooled fan reaction to her over the months.

The most interesting part of the segment was the footage of Mercedes Mone, even referencing her by name. Despite her ankle injury, AEW may still be interested in signing the former WWE Women’s Champion, and she would be a huge coup for the company.

Tony Khan will be hoping to tie up a deal for the former Sasha Banks when her injury is up, setting Mercedes Mone up for an AEW debut in the ring as soon as possible.
