WWE Fastlane took place on October 7, 2023 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
It was the first Fastlane event to take place since 2021, with last year’s show cancelled altogether.
The show usually takes place between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania – being marketed as “The Fast Lane To WrestleMania”, but was moved to October this year for unknown reasons. Despite the change of date, WWE has worked to make this month’s show one of the most exciting in the history of the event.
WWE have trimmed down the amount of matches on their PLE’s in recent years. While AEW’s recent outing (WrestleDream 2023) boasted 14 different wrestling matches, WWE Fastlane 2023 has a more modest five matches – although the company has tried their best to build each one up to the highest heights they possibly could.
Fastlane 2023 features some huge matches, involving some of the biggest stars in the WWE. While Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns once again misses out on defending his title on the latest WWE PLE, 16-time world champion John Cena returns to the WWE for a huge tag team match against two other members of “The Bloodline”.
Other matches include Seth Rollins defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura again, as well as a huge women’s three-way match, as well as Cody Rhodes challenging for the WWE Tag Team Championships for the first time in nearly a decade.
