WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry has heaped praise on Willie Mack, wanting Tony Khan to sign the former Impact X Division Champion.
The World’s Strongest Man signed for AEW in 2021 as a coach and backstage interviewer, as well as performing commentary duties on AEW Dark: Elevation. He has been a key figure on AEW Rampage in the past year, appearing before the main event to interview the competitors in the match.
However, he has taken time off his job in AEW to urge Tony Khan to sign up 36 year old former WWE wrestler to a contract, having been impressed with Willie Mack’s recent performances in AEW.
On this week’s episode of AEW Rampage, Mack faced Brian Cage in a singles match in which he greatly impressed, albeit in defeat. He also faced the ROH Six-Man Tag Champion on AEW Dark, also failing to pick up the victory in that match.
Mark Henry has urged Tony Khan to open the chequebook to make Willie Mack’s stay in the company permanent. He claims he would be a great fit for their Ring of Honor show, noting that he would be a “great locker room addition”.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast, Mark Henry said;
“I would love to see him Willie Mack on ROH. He’s a leader, I think he’s a good locker room addition, he’s fun-loving, and he don’t mind getting in and working with the young people. That means a lot to me because that means he’s trying to give as well as take and making a living.”
Willie Mack currently wrestles for AAA and had a brief spell in the WWE in 2014. The former Lucha Underground star signed for the company in 2014 but was fired a month later, because a medical test found something wrong with his blood pressure and his knee. This was before he even turned up for his first day in work in Florida.
Willie Mack did say that he suspects he was fired because WWE signed another African American wrestler at the same time that had a better body than him – although looking at the NXT roster in 2014, it’s a struggle to see who he thinks replaced him.
