4. Goldberg vs The Rock (Backlash 2003)
A match that pitted two of the biggest stars of rival companies together. Goldberg was WCW’s biggest homegrown star, being a former WCW Champion and having victories over Hulk Hogan on his record.
The Rock, however, was WWE’s biggest star after the retirement of Stone Cold Steve Austin. It was the biggest match WWE could have given to the debuting Goldberg, and beating the Hollywood-bound Rock was the right move for the finish.
After a great back and forth match, it took a spear and Jackhammer to knock out the Rock and give Goldberg the victory. A great match that made Goldberg an instant star, to those who did not watch WCW during the Monday Night Wars.
Fans, however, would have preferred another opponent for Goldberg. The often rumoured Goldberg vs Steve Austin match never happened, as Austin retired just before Goldberg came into the company. Goldberg even went on a talk show when in WCW, challenger the Texas Rattlesnake to a match.
However, the match never took place, and remains one of the biggest WWE dream matches that never happened.
