While Shinsuke Nakamura vs Testuya Naito has been seen before in NJPW, another match between the two of them would be a blockbuster match for the fans in Japan.
The two former IWGP Heavyweight Champions tore the house down during the 2011 G1 Climax. It was the match of the night as the two stars battled it out in a match rated 9.05 on Cagematch.
With Shinsuke Nakamura currently starring in WWE and Tetsuya Naito a top star in NJPW, one or the other would have to leave their respective companies to have the long awaited rematch.
With Shinsuke Nakamura leaving WWE being a rumour currently doing the rounds, could we see Shinsuke Nakamura vs Tetsuya Naito in NJPW in the coming years?
Hiroshi Tanahashi seems to think so.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs Tetsuya Naito
In a recent interview with NJPW, Hiroshi Tanahashi spoke about a number of topics, including a match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Tetsuya Naito.
Tanahashi spoke about Shinsuke Nakamura and how he left NJPW in 2016, just before the explosion of Tetsuya Naito and Los Ingobernables de Japón popularity in New Japan. During their first match, Naito had not developed the character he has now that has endeared him tot he fans of New Japan.
The Ace of the Universe spoke about Naito taking over from Nakamura as the top guy in NJPW and how he stepped up upon Nakamura and AJ Styles leaving New Japan.
“It was like he took over from Nakamura as the top charismatic guy. Whether it’s that spot, or the spot of the top foreign ace, whenever someone creates an opening, there’s always someone else stepping up to take that spot. Wrestling history is a funny thing.”
He then added about a potential Tetsuya Naito vs Shinsuke Nakamura match;
“Man, with all the changes Naito has undergone since those days, Naito vs Nakamura today is a dream match.“
It would certianly be a dream match for all wrestling fans, and one that everyone including Hiroshi Tanahashi hopes we can see some time in the near future.
