Sheamus rolled back the years at Clash at the Castle as he put on a five-star classic with Gunther in his attempt to win the Intercontinental Championship. The former WWE Champion came up short, with Gunther’s belt the only title in WWE has yet to win.
However, despite his failure, he showed the WWE Universe that he has so much more left to give and could be one of the top wrestlers in WWE if given the chance. A Sheamus vs Roman Reigns feud over the world championship could be set for the future, once the Roman Reigns vs Logan Paul match is out of the way.
2022 has certainly been Sheamus’ year. He has headed his own faction, the Brawling Brutes, been one of the featured acts on Monday Night Raw and has been tasked on bringing through the future. He is currently mentoring Ridge Holland and Butch (Pete Dunne) as part of the group and is the leader of one of the most entertaining stables in WWE at the moment.
DID YOU KNOW – Sheamus was also the leader of another faction in WWE, called The League of Nations!
Sheamus did get stale over the years. Between 2013 and 2016, he was general revered as bland and boring, playing the same character as he had since his debut. However, once he teamed with Cesaro as The Bar he found a new lease on life and he has been one of the best wrestlers in the tag team division ever since.
However, he is currently 44 years old and winding down his career. Back injuries have affected him greatly over the last few years and he has put a lot of strain on his body, being the height and weight that he is. Many have thought that we could be seeing the end his career, but when asked his retiring Sheamus had something very different to say.
When Will Sheamus Retire?
In a recent interview with Inside The Ropes, Sheamus revealed when he would retire from the ring. The former WWE Champion has been suffering with back injures in recent years and there were rumours there would not be many years left to see the Celtic Warrior inside the ring.
However, in his interview he revealed that Sheamus will wrestle until 2030, if his prediction of lasting another 8 years in the ring comes to fruition. In the interview, Sheamus said;
“As long as people get excited to see The Celtic Warrior go out there, I’ll just keep going as long as possible. I feel like I have got at least another 8 years in me,”
Sheamus on retiring from WWE
Given that he is currently doing his best work in years, it would be a real shame to see someone as talented as Sheamus retire from WWE at the moment. Maybe 8 years is a bit optimistic, but it’s good to see he is planning to wrestle long into the future. More matches like the Gunther match and he could go down as one of the all time great wrestlers in WWE, and a shoe-in for the WWE Hall of Fame once he retires.
