Randy Orton is not wrestling for WWE at the moment due to a back injury. The 14 time WWE Champion has been on the best run of his career so far, as one half of the thoroughly entertaining duo “RK-Bro”, alongside partner Matt Riddle. Together, the pair became the WWE Tag Team Champions and Orton found a new motivation, after years of simply going through the motions.
He has been out of action since May and hasn’t wrestled since the 20th May 2022 edition of Friday Night Smackdown. His last match before injury saw RK-Bro lose their tag team championships to The Usos. This look to set up Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns in the main event of Summerslam, but he suffered a back injury which forced a change of plans.
The Legend Killer has not been seen on TV since that match in May, with many fans concerned about The Viper‘s future in the company. Eager to see him back on their screen, many have taken to social media to ask why Randy Orton is not wrestling for WWE at the moment, and when he will be back?
Why Is Randy Orton Not Wrestling In WWE?
Unfortunately, he may be out for a long, long time. His injury may be worse than first feared and we could see Randy Orton maybe never returning, forced into retirement by a back injury that has required an intense recovery from the former Evolution member.
A report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that WWE are concerned about Randy Orton’s current injury and that there is a fear by some that the 14 time World Champion could be faced with an impending retirement if things do not get better.
Dave Meltzer wrote “There is a lot of concern regarding Orton’s back injury and its severity”, with other sources suggesting that an early retirement could be an issue for the 41 year old WWE legend. Orton may have to undergo surgery for his back injury, which would obviously add considerable time to his recovery period.
