AEW backstage interview Renee Paquette has revealed that she had talks with the WWE surrounding a return to the company this year, but ultimately chose to sign with All Elite Wrestling instead. She signed for AEW earlier this year and made her first appearance during AEW’s debut show in Canada. She came out at the start of the 10th October, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite to a huge pop, to interview former WWE star Christian Cage.
She has a huge fanbase in Canada, due to her work on shows like the WWE and The Score. She began in the WWE as a backstage interviewer on NXT and was soon moved to the main roster. She also dabbled on commentary, both on the main roster and on NXT but soon found out that it wasn’t her calling.
Upon her exit from WWE in 2020 she began her own podcast “Oral Sessions”, later renamed to “The Session” which featured a number of huge guests, mainly from the wrestling world. Big stars like CM Punk and Jon Moxley appeared on the show and gained her a new, huge fanbase within the world of wrestling.
Her signing with AEW was not unexpected – her husband Jon Moxley has been with the company since 2019 and is a three-time AEW Champion. However, she stayed out of the company for three years until she decided the time was right and made her AEW debut.
However, it wasn’t just AEW she was considering. She also had talks with Triple H and the WWE about the idea of coming back to the company, just two years after she left. However, the pull of Tony Khan’s company was too much. She wanted to help the company grow and work with her husband regularly as the two main factors for her signing.
Renee Paquette revealed this on the latest episode of Vickie Guerrero’s podcast, the Excuse Me podcast. Speaking to former wife of Eddie Guerrero, Paquette said;
I had been talking to WWE, that had gotten leaked out before I debuted with AEW, I had been having conversations with WWE about all the things they have going on over there. The more I was thinking about it and figuring out what that looks like and what the future looks like, I was like, ‘No, I want to be in AEW.’ I want to be part of this company that is growing and developing. I want to help. I want to help lend whatever knowledge I have in this space to make things good, I want to do a good job, I want to be on the road with my husband, that makes life easier. It was more so that and it was more conversations Jon and I were having. That was one of those first big moments, ‘We have to make a decision as a family.’ Not that I can’t do what I want, if that’s what I decided to do, it would have been fine, but you have family conversations about what makes the most sense for everyone.
Renee Paquette appears regularly on AEW Dynamite, interview various wrestlers backstage and in the ring, much to the delight of the fans in the arena who have grown to be big supports of her during her near-decade in the WWE.
