Former WWE Superstar John Morrison has welcomed a 2023 Royal Rumble return, revealing he has “unfinished business in the WWE”.
The former Intercontinental Champion was released by the WWE in 2021 during the pandemic era budget cuts while locked in a fierce rivalry with long-time partner The Miz. The duo never got the blow-off match in their feud and his release was a very controversial one – given he had only returned the company after nearly a decade away just two years prior.
He has since appeared for a number of companies under a variety of names, most notably a short stint in AEW. He wrestled in two matches for the company as Johnny Elite, losing to Samoa Joe on his debut before having one more match before the expiry of his short-term contract.
In a sit down interview with Chris Van Vliet, John Morrison reveal that he’d love a return to the company as a surprise entrant in the 2023 Royal Rumble. He noted that he had “unfinished business” with The Miz before his release and that “It would be great to go back to WWE“
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, John Morrison said;
“That wouldn’t be the worst thing. Imagine how cool that would be for WWE. [laughs] I have a ton of unfinished business. Unfinished business with my frenemy, The Miz, and a ton of people on the roster. In the business of professional wrestling, if you look at the rosters of Raw, SmackDown, NXT, Rampage, Dynamite, IMPACT, MLW, Ring of Honor, NWA, I have a personal history and issues with everybody. Not everybody, but a lot of people on every one of those rosters. It would be great to go back to WWE, it would be great to go to any one of those rosters because there is a ton of unfinished business, a ton of new matchups, and mostly because I like wrestling.”
On January 7, 2023 Hennigan debuted in Major League Wrestling (MLW) at their Blood and Thunder pay-per-view under the ring name Johnny Fusion and defeated Davey Richards to win their National Openweight Championship.
