Anthony Bowens looks to have suffered an injury on last nights episode of AEW Dynamite, with The Acclaimed member now in doubt to wrestle at Full Gear 2022. Bowens is currently one half of the AEW Tag Team Champion and wrestled Swerve Strickland on Dynamite, suffering defeat against his opponent for Saturday.
On the go-home show for AEW Full Gear 2022 he lost against Swerve, who is teaming with Keith Lee as Swerve in our Glory against the Acclaimed on Saturday. Bowens seemed to have suffered an injury during the match, aggravating a previous shoulder injury that could rule him out of the title defence.
He was previously kept of the ring due to shoulder and knee injuries, so the immediate reaction to the potential injury has been concern. Fightful Select has reported that backstage, the doctor has considered it an aggravation of an injury, but did not comment about the potential for him to miss his title defence alongside Max Caster.
There is always the possibility the injury is a work. Swerve Strickland did focus on the shoulder of Anthony Bowens during the match, so hopefully it is just excellent selling by one of the top wrestlers in the AEW Tag Team Division. With Billy Gunn and Max Caster, The Acclaimed became the top tag team in AEW when they beat Swerve in Our Glory at AEW Grand Slam to win the AEW Tag Team Championships.
They impressed before Bowens match on Dynamite, releasing a new music video for Caster’s latest rap song “A Hand for a Hand”, a diss track on Swerve and Keith Lee ahead of their match. The two young stars mocked the pair in a video that included a cameo by Paul Wight (The Big Show) as “Captain Insano”, a character he played in Adam Sandler’s “Water Boy”.
AEW have yet to comment on the injury. The Acclaimed are set to wrestle Swerve in our Glory at AEW Full Gear 2022 for the AEW Tag Team Championships. It is the third match between the two teams, with each picking up 1 win each.
