Sammy Guevara could be on his way out of AEW after a cryptic Twitter post seemed to confirm the worst for fans. The “Spanish God” wrestled on last nights AEW Dynamite as part of the AEW Championship tournament. He wrestled Darby Allin last week in a winning effort but lost to Jon Moxley in the opening match of this weeks show.
Moxley will move on to next week where he takes on teammate Bryan Danielson to become the AEW Champion, but the future for Guevara could be much different, if his recent social media post is anything to go by.
The Inner Circle original member posted on Twitter following his lost to Jon Moxley. He tweeted out a quote which said ““I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”, before adding “We came up short last night, it is what it is, Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point”.
He then added the final line which really began discussion on his future, “It’s been a hell of a ride. Where we go next we go with faith.”. Stating “where we go next” has implied that his future could lay outside of AEW, which could be a huge loss for the company but the next in a long list of stars leaving the promotion.
He would join a group of wrestlers that includes Cody Rhodes, Malakai Black and Alan Angels in recent months who have exited the company. He is most heavily rumoured, based on this tweet, to be joining former AEW star and friend Cody Rhodes in the WWE.
These rumours came about due to the photos he posted with the tweet. The four photos all showed different parts of his AEW career, with the first being after his debut AEW Dynamite match against Cody Rhodes – the first Dynamite match in history. It shows the pair shaking hands and could show the future, should he join WWE.
Whether Tay Melo, his new wife and AEW wrestler, would follow him is another question. She has not posted anything suggesting her leaving the company and is seen as one of the best woman wrestlers in the division. She has huge potential to be a star in the company and was making waves as a babyface before she was erroneously turned heel earlier this year.
Neither Guevara, Melo or AEW President Tony Khan has made further comments on him leaving AEW this week. We will report as any new information becomes available. Sammy Guevara is considered one of the “Four Pillars of AEW” and would be a huge loss for the promotion if he were to leave.
