CM Punk and Chris Jericho have a long and storied history which has recently turned negative Punk’s brazen press conference after AEW All Out 2022. After winning the AEW Championship he shot on Colt Cabana and The Elite for spreading rumours about him and airing his dirty laundry in public.
He then went backstage and was confronted by The Elite, who were said to have barged into his dressing room to talk about the event. A brawl ensued between the two parties, with Punk’s friend and former AEW agent Ace Steel getting in on the action. Punk was said to have punched Matt Jackson while Ace Steel threw a chair at Kenny Omega after biting him on the arm. This put an end to his AEW career and he is unlikely to return to wrestling at all in the future.
However, before he left the company, CM Punk injured Chris Jericho during a televised brawl that could have ended much worse if not for the expert ability and experience in the ring.
On the latest episode of Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho revealed how he was injured by CM Punk during a brawl that involved the two former AEW Champions. The injury happened during an in-ring segment that took place at AEW Dynamite “Quake By The Lake”. The segment saw the return of CM Punk after a multi-month layoff due to an injury suffered at Double or Nothing.
The Best in the World returned to help Jon Moxley and The Blackpool Combat Club from a beatdown for Chris Jericho’s Jericho Appreciation Society and the crowd erupted when the first notes of the famous “Cult of Personality” hit and the Chicago native made his long awaited AEW comeback.
CM Punk attacked the JAS separately, before making it into the ring and targeting The Ocho. He beat him down with punches before clotheslining him over the top rope, inadvertantly causing an injury to Jericho. However, Le Champion admitted that it was a complete accident and that he held no ill will toward Punk for the injury.
Speaking on the latest episode of Talk Is Jericho, “The Ocho” Chris Jericho said about CM Punk;
“Which of course led to CM Punk returning and because he had been hurt and that when the summer was over and he came back and people just went nuts for it and had the Jericho Appreciation Society all take bumps for him. And then he came in with me and you can see I charged at him with the belt. He hits me, hits me again. You see me pointing to my throat to clothesline me over the top rope to the floor. And we didn’t quite have enough momentum.
Nobody’s fault. It just, I called it on the fly. We didn’t have the amount of momentum. So when I got stuck and he gave me a little bit of an extra shove to go over and that’s when I bruised my larynx. Total accident, no issue whatsoever. It just was the wrong place at the right time.”
