Shinsuke Nakamura could be set to leave WWE in the upcoming months after an up-and-down run in WWE looks to be coming to an end.
Nakamura was signed to WWE with great fanfare in 2016 after leaving NJPW. Nakamura was one of the top stars in New Japan and was a former IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion in the Japanese promotion.
He came to the attention of American wrestling fans with his Wrestle Kingdom 10 match against AJ Styles. The pair but on an all-time classic to impress WWE officials, and both men promptly signed deals with the American promotion on big-money contracts.
Nakamura was sent to NXT where he had a match of the year candidate with Sami Zayn on his debut. He would later become a two-time NXT Champion before heading to the main roster which results in a mixed bag of success.
While Shinsuke Nakamura did win multiple championships in WWE, he never achieved the WWE Championship as fans would have liked. He even won the Royal Rumble match but failed to take advantage of this fact, losing to AJ Styles at Wrestlemania.
As Shinsuke Nakamura’s WWE contract end draws near, fans are starting to wonder whether or not Shinsuke Nakamura is leaving WWE or will be signing a new deal to keep him with WWE for the foreseeable future.
Shinsuke Nakamura leaving WWE
After failing to achieve his true potential as a WWE Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura looks like he is thinking about leaving WWE once his contract ends.
Last year, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion denied rumours he had signed a new contract with WWE, something which he would not have done had he wanted the information to be known.
Nakamura’s WWE contract is rumoured to expire within the next year or two, although there are no real details about his deal, which he signed an extension to in 2019.
Shinsuke Nakamura leaving WWE appears to have come even closer to happening, thanks to a recent deleted tweet by the Japanese Superstar.
In a now-deleted Tweet, the King of Strong Style appeared to announce his intention to leave WWE, Tweeting out “See you, my friends”. This Tweet could be interpreted that Nakamura was warning his friends in New Japan Pro Wrestling that he would soon be returning to the promotion in his home country.
With a number of WWE stars jumping ship from WWE to both NJPW and AEW, like Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson, it would be no surprise if Shinsuke Nakamura left WWE to sign with his home promotion, ideally in time for the Forbidden Door pay per view in June.
