Matt Cardona has Incited rumours about his return to the WWE by revealing his goal is to win the WWE Championship, in a shocking new interview. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion was released by WWE in 2020, at the start of the pandemic, and had a brief stint in AEW before going on his own and making a new character for himself on the independent scene.

The former Zack Ryder brought his “WWE Positive” character to places like GCW, becoming a top heel wherever he went and winning titles all over the United States. His crowning achievement was winning the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship, although a long-term injury would take the shine off his title reign.

However, Matt Cardona has recently spoken about making a shock return to the WWE. With Triple H now in charge after the retirement of Vince McMahon, there could be a chance to see Zack Ryder back in the WWE. He has previously won the United States Championship and Intercontinental Championship in the company, but revealed in an interview with Chris Van Vliet that his ultimate goal is to win the WWE Championship

In an interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Matt Cardona revealed that his “one goal” is to become WWE Championship, although he also aspired to have another match at Wrestlemania and wrestle at Madison Square Garden again. Speaking in the interview, Cardona said;

One goal, I’ve been saying for a long time, is to win the WWE Championship. That’s not a lie. When I got released, the goal was not to get back to WWE. It wasn’t like, ‘What can I do to make them notice me? What can I do to get back to WWE?’ You can’t think like that. I certainly can’t. I would be lying if I said I never want to wrestle in Madison Square Garden again or I never want to have a WrestleMania match. Of course I do. WWE is number one. I’m not saying there is this plan to go back as soon as possible, but before I hang up the boots, I’d love to go back at least one time, for sure.

Matt Cardona has always spoken posititvely about the WWE since his release and has never shied away about his aspiration to return to the company. At only 37 years of age and 15 years experience, he would be a huge pickup for the company and could be the next big return after Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania 38.
