Why wasn’t Finn Balor in the 2022 Royal Rumble?

One of the biggest absences from the 2022 Royal Rumble was Finn Balor. The former Universal Champion did not make an appearance in the Royal Rumble match and was one of the biggest absences along with Cesaro.

The Irish wrestler however did not miss the match due to an injury. Wrestlevotes confirmed with one of their sources that “Finn Balor is not injured in anyway, he is out of the country however. WWE expects him back in plenty of time for WrestleMania.”

Balor confirmed himself that he was not in the United States at the time of the Royal Rumble. On Sunday, he posted a photo of himself outside the Temple Bar in Dublin, Ireland. Due to his lack of injury, it is expected that is the reason for his absence in the Royal Rumble match.

In a recent podcast interview, Balor spoke to NXT UK superstar Mark Andrews regarding his time spent in the US and his feelings on being stuck in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Balor said “”I’ve been stuck in America for the past two years with Covid kind of heightening the feeling of isolation. In WWE and like in that bubble, like away from my friends and family, so there was kind of multiple reasons why I wanted to go to NXT UK.”

Finn Balor was known as Prince Devitt in Japan and was the founder of one of the greatest factions in NJPW history, Bullet Club.
