Throwback To “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan’s Final WWE Match

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan’s final match in WWE took place in 2013, years after he first made a splash in the WWE.

His peak in the company was in the late 1980s. Duggan made history as the first man to win the Royal Rumble match, doing so during the events debut in 1988.

The Patriotic star never won any other titles in the WWE, but is a former United States and Television Champion in WCW. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011.

He made a surprise return to WWE in 2006, originally thought to be a one-off legends appearance but actually turned out to be a full-time run that lasted years.

Duggan wrestled full-time for the company on Raw until 2008 and made sporadic appearances after that. He has appeared as a surprise legend in multiple Royal Rumble matches and in multiple backstage skits over the years.

In this article, we’ll guide you through “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan’s final WWE match and how he did against a former World Heavyweight Champion.

Jim Duggan’s Last WWE Match

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan’s last WWE match was against Jack Swagger on a special 2013 episode of Monday Night Raw.

The match took place on a special “Old School Raw” show on March 13th, 2013. Jim Duggan entered the match with Swagger already in the ring and was accompanied by fellow WWE Hall of Famers Dusty Rhodes and Sgt Slaughter.

The bout pitted two sides of American Patriotism against one another. One one hand you had the USA-loving, flag waving Duggan, who presented his love for America as his greatest trait (as well as shouting “Hooooo” for some reason).

On the other side was Jack Swagger, accompanied by Zeb Coulter. The two satirised the Tea Party Movement in the United States, campaigning to get “illegals” out of the country with racist undertones to their characters.

The matches lasted mere minutes. Swagger immediately slid out of the ring and grabbed Duggan’s famous “two-by-four” plank of wood that sat in the corner. Despite the protests from Rhodes, Slaughter and the referee, Swagger hit Duggan in the stomach for the DQ.

The referee never actually called for the bell to end the match, but in the record books WWE have it as a disqualification victory for Duggan. His celebration was short lived as Jack Swagger then locked in the Patriot Lock (an ankle lock) to add insult to injury.

This was Jim Duggan’s last match in the WWE. He had been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame two years prior and his full-time career was done.

Duggan wrestled a handful of independent matches over the years and continues to appear on WWE TV, mainly during special “legend’s nights” episode of Raw or Smackdown.

Fans still hope for one more Royal Rumble appearance for the former match winner, although he may be too old and out of shape to make it in time for 2024.
