It looks like Drew McIntyre could be on his way out of WWE, with AEW being the most likely destination for the former WWE Champion.
The Scottish Superstar has been a constant presence in the WWE since his return to the company in 2017.
He is a former NXT Champion, a Royal Rumble winner and two-time WWE Champion, adding to his already impressive canon of work.
McIntyre also main event Clash at the Castle, the first UK stadium show to take place in 30 years – although he lost the title match against Roman Reigns.
However, with his recent booking being lacking, Drew McIntyre could be looking to move to AEW, once his WWE contract expires.
Fightful Select reported that Drew McIntyre’s contract is set to expire before the end of the year, and he is waiting until closer to the time to renew his deal.
The Scot had nine months left on his contract, and does not currently see the value in signing a new deal at this present time.
He could simply be leveraging AEW to get a raise in WWE, but it would probably be better for his career if he signed with Tony Khan’s company, at the end of 2023.
Drew McIntyre in AEW would immediately make him a top star in the company. He would be positioned alongside Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley as the biggest stars in the company.
However, something he has that the pair don’t is the UK fans behind him. He is a huge star in the UK, and one of the most popular wrestlers of all time in the country.
Main event feuds with Adam Page or CM Punk would also be able to fill arenas, including the upcoming All In 2 show at Wembley Stadium.
While he would not be available to wrestle on that show, a potential All In 3, taking place in his hometown of Glasgow (at Celtic Park or Ibrox) would be the perfect spot to crown Drew McIntyre as AEW Champion.
If they can book a heel AEW Champion CM Punk against Babyface Drew McIntyre at Ibrox, it has the potential to put on one of the best main events ever, in front of one of the hottest crowds ever.
