Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo had a backstage fight in October 2022, adding to the already tense backstage atmosphere at AEW.
The former NXT Champion clashed with Guevara over a match the pair had on AEW Rampage, trading blows before being broken up, in a shocking backstage fight.
They then traded barbs online, making their private fight incredibly public to fans who follow the pair on social media.
In this article, we’ll talk you through every part of the fight between Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo in AEW, and what happened to the pair after it was all said and done.
The Fight Between Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo
Backstage during the October 5th, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite, Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo were involved in a physical fight.
Details about the fight differ depending on who you ask, but the key details are fairly consistent.
Sammy Guevara was supposedly upset by how hard Andrade had hit him during a match together, claiming he was doing so on purpose to hurt him.
Some words were exchanged and Guevara allegedly pushed Andrade. This turned into a fight, and Andrade was said to have punched Sammy Guevara in the head.
Andrade was sent home due to the fight, while Guevara went on to wrestle Chris Jericho later that night.
It was claimed that Andrade El Idolo was suspended by Tony Khan due to the incident, but that turned out to be untrue.
However, they were warned about their behavior by management. This was the second time this happened to Sammy Guevara, who got into a fight with Eddie Kingston in AEW as well.
Andrade Claims Sammy Guevara Complained About Him
Despite being warned by AEW management about his conduct with the fight, Andrade El Idolo commented on the backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara during an interview.
The Mexican star did not let up when discussing the issue, comparing the former TNT Champion to a “little girl” for complaining backstage about Andrade.
He seemingly confirmed the rumour about the fight being caused by Guevara disliking how hard Andrade hit him during their match.
Andrade dismissed this, stating that they should “solve it in the ring”. He told Sammy Guevara “if I hit hard, hit me hard too”.
The action of punishing a stiff punch with one of your own is something that has been done in wrestling for decades, and is referred to as “a receipt”.
In a recent sit-down interview with Mas Lucha in Mexico City, Andrade had this to say about his backstage fight with Sammy Guevara in AEW.
“I did have one issue with a wrestler. I am going to say his name, it was Sammy Guevara. I had an issue with him because he once came to the locker room and complained that we hit him too hard.”
“It’s wrestling, solve it in the ring. If I hit hard, hit me hard too. I learned that he came in and that he accused me like a little girl. After I learned about it, I spoke to him and asked if he had an issue with me, but he said he did not and that’s all there was to it.”
“It’s funny because not even in WWE. For example, Sheamus likes to hit, and all my respect for him because he loves to hit hard and loves the strikes. He is wild. Even The Miz likes to throw strikes. Not even John Cena complained about me, so if he did not complain, imagine this kid who is just starting, but there’s that.”
Sammy Told Him To “Go Back To WWE”
Following that interview with Mas Lucha, Sammy Guevara took to social media to sling some thinly-veiled insults toward Andrade.
He Tweeted out (without tagging Andrade) “You are a jobber. A favor hire. Be grateful bitch.”, a Tweet which he later deleted.
Andrade soon fired back, this time making it clear who he was referencing.
The former La Sombra Tweeted back: “I said it to your FACE if you had a problem with me and you said NOTHING, I won’t beat your ass because I’m a professional, don’t be scared. When I say something I name names, and I’m not scared to get fired! #Sammy”
Guevara fired back once more, saying: “YOU didn’t say s* to me you liar but heres some truth you ungrateful prick You would be jobless if it wasn’t for your dad in law. Are you really mad at me or mad at yourself for failing to get over for a SECOND time? Just go back to WWE like we all know you want to do & f* off”
Jose the Assistant piped in to back up Andrade’s version of events, in what quickly became a messy situation for the AEW PR machine.
Both men were then talked about their conduct, and seemed to have squashed their beef.
Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara both soon returned to wrestling in AEW, where they both work to this day (despite their very public backstage fight).
