Cody Rhodes has declared John Cena to be “the ultimate role model” in a praise-laden interview by the 2023 Royal Rumble winner. The former TNT Champion returned from a 7 month injury to appear last in the match, last eliminating Gunther to win the match for the first time in his career.
Cody Rhodes is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE now and a huge draw in the company. He regularly draws over 2 million viewers with his Raw segments and is gearing up to be the next top babyface in the WWE.
The former AEW star only signed back for the WWE last year, after a disappointing period in All Elite Wrestling. Despite a strong start, he booked himself into a corner and lost the support of the fans over a number of years, leading to his WWE return. He made the right choice as he is now set to main event Wrestlemania 39 against Roman Reigns.
In a recent interview on “My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox“, Cody Rhodes heaped praise on John Cena, revealing that he takes inspiration from the 16 time world champion every day. He noted that he wrote down everything Cena told him when they sued to ride together, calling him an “ultimate role model” and “really invaluable as a person”.
“I’ll tell you, John’s the ultimate role model as far as how he conducted himself, whether it was with the media, with the fans, the good fans, the more unruly fans, everything. He is the ultimate role model, and before he became a bus guy, I got to drive him around a little bit. He was just talking. I was, in my mind, just writing everything down that he was saying, “Rhodes stated.
“He was really invaluable as a person to be around. I’m so blown away by how he’s doing and what he’s doing, but I think if you try to copy what he did everyone’s gotta do it their own way. I think my style, if I ever was to be somebody that was a locker room leader, would just be to lead by example.”
“I know from my time in management as an executive. As beneficial as it was for me and as educational as it was for me, sometimes it’s easier to lead by example versus telling them that this is going to work or being so adamant that they need to do this because everyone is different. There is no true formula for success in sports entertainment and pro wrestling. It really is. You just know it when you hear it.”
While Cody Rhodes is facing Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania, John Cena is rumoured to be on the card in a much lower profile match. He is expected to wrestling Austin Theory for the United States Championship, if he finds a gap in filming his various movies and TV shows.
