Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay Awarded Six-Star Rating From Dave Meltzer

Dave Meltzer has awarded Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay from Forbidden Door a six star rating, making it one of the greatest matches ever.

The match ratings were revealed in this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer, which you can read about here.

The two men battled over the IWGP United States Championship, in a rematch from their epic battle at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

In the Tokyo Dome, Kenny Omega came out victorious over his English opponent. Ospreay looked to get revenge in Canada, the home country of the former AEW Champion.

While that bout received an eye-watering 6.25 stars, many fans claim that the Forbidden Door match was actually the best match of all time – and the six stars certainly helps reflect that.

Kenny Omega battled Will Ospreay for an astonishing forty-minutes, one of the longest in AEW history.

With Don Callis by his side, Ospreay had the mental edge in the match. He had a plan to beat Omega, but it would not come without him wresting the match of his life.

Despite Omega kicking out of everything Ospreay had (including a Kamegoye and One-Winged Angel combo at one), it was the United Empire leader who ran out victorious.

He hit Misawa’s Tiger Driver 91 (renamed the Storm Driver 93) and a Stormbreaker to win the match, picking up his first win over Kenny Omega in their two matches in the last year.

This was one of Ospreay’s biggest wins yet, and solidified him as a huge player in both AEW and WWE.

The match was Will Ospreay’s third six-star match, following his 2021 bout with Shingo Tagaki and the last Omega match.

Meanwhile, it is the seventh time Kenny Omega has crossed the six-star threshold, which included four matches with Kazuchika Okada in NJPW.

This match was also the first five-star (or more) match in history to take place in Canada.
