The Smackdown Women’s Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair had made history at WrestleMania 39.
The bout pit Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley up against the champion Charlotte Flair, in a rematch from the NXT Championship match three years prior.
Ripley won the bout with a top-rope Ripetide, winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship in one of the best matches at this year’s WrestleMania.
However, it was not the big win that made history, but the people involved in the match.
It was a big night for women’s wrestling, especially in this match. Not only were there two women wrestling at WrestleMania 39, but both the referee and ring announcer were also women.
Samantha Irvine introduced both wrestlers to the match, impressing once again since beginning with the company in recent times.
Meanwhile, Jessika Carr refereed the match, being one of the most high-profile female referees in the history of wrestling.
This was the first time that both wrestlers, referee and announcer were all women during a match at WrestleMania, adding another record to Charlotte Flair’s increasing and impressive collection of accolades in the WWE.
The impressive record was announced by Michael Cole on commentary, so unfortunately the all-women affair did not extend to the commentary team as well.
Trish Stratus also broke a record at WrestleMania! Click below to read all about it.
