WWE finally referenced Sami Zayn’s past as El Generico, in the main event of WrestleMania 39.
Kevin Owens and SamI Zayn wrestled as Kevin Steen and El Generico, respectively, in the promotion, and had many incredible matches over the years of teaming together, and being each others greatest rival.
In the main event of WrestleMania 39, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens wrestled against The Usos, vying to win the WWE Tag Team Championships for the first time in their WWE careers.
They defeated the record-breaking champions in an incredible match, that saw Sami Zayn lay three Heluva Kicks into Jey Uso, before pinning him for the victory.
However, during their main event match, Michael Cole referenced El Generico, as the crowd chanted Zayn’s trademark “Ole” chant.
Referencing Sami Zayn’s past as El Generico, Michael Cole said;
El Generico would be proud of the Ole Chants
To which Corey Graves coyly replied;
Glad THAT guy retired before he could make it to WrestleMania.”
