AEW is set to return to Canada for their second ever show across the border, with a visit to Chris Jericho‘s hometown in Winnipeg. The former AEW Champion will be going home for the first time since signing for All Elite Wrestling, with fellow Winnipeg natives Kenny Omega and Don Callis also excited to see the company going up north.
The last time AEW performed in Canada was on October 12th, 2022 when AEW put on a dynamite show where Chris Jericho defeated Bryan Danielson to retain the ROH World Title while Orange Cassidy beat Pac to become the AEW All-Atlantic Champion. It also featured the debut of Renee Paquette and the return of Shawn Spears from a lengthy time out.
The show will likely feature some huge matches featuring Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega. The two Winnipeg natives will be cheers as the biggest babyfaces at the show and it will be an emotional moment for both men. It could see a potential title change involving the two as well as a host of other matches that have so far yet to be announced.
AEW Dynamite will make it’s debut in Winnipeg for a special Tuesday, March 14th, 2023 episode of AEW’s main TV show. For the second ever Canadian event they have held, ROH Champion Chris Jericho created a special promotional video hyping up his return as the hometown hero and gave fans a glimpse of what they can expect when Le Champion comes back to Canada,
On a promo filmed and posted on Twitter, Chris Jericho said;
“I can’t believe it. This is going to be the biggest wrestling show of the decade: I’m going to be there, Kenny Omega is going to be there, Don Callis is going to be there. There’d be no AEW without Winnipeg.”
“The entire city’s going to come out in droves to see me, their biggest hero.”
Many fans only know Jericho is a native of Winnipeg due to one famous clip. During his time in WWE, one fan aggressively shouted toward Jericho as he brawled on the outside to “go back to Toronto”. Correcting the obnoxious fan, Chris Jericho yelled back “I’m from Winnipeg your idiot!”
