Chris Jericho has revealed what Hulk Hogan said to him after a blockbuster match with Darby Allin in AEW Dynamite. The former AEW Champion spoke about receiving a phone call from the WWE Hall of Famer after successfully defending his title against the young challenger, with the Hulkster having huge praise for All Elite Wrestling.
Speaking to Darby Allin on Talk Is Jericho, the former WWE star revealed Hogan had said to him in a call after he beat Allin on AEW Dynamite. Darby Allin earned the shot at the AEW Champion by beating Jimmy Havoc the week prior. The Chris Jericho vs Darby Allin match was well received across the wrestling world for helping to build up a young talent that was previously unknown, and making the fans think he had a chance at beating a legend like Le Champion.
Chris Jericho revealed that after his match with Darby Allin, Hulk Hogan rang him on the phone to praise him for the match. The former NWO leader said that is was “amazing” what AEW was doing and that he loved how believable it was that Allin could defeat Jericho after just a couple of weeks of build.
“I got a call from Hulk Hogan after our match [Chris Jericho vs Darby Allin]. He goes, ‘this is so amazing what you guys are doing because you have these guys that no one [has] ever heard of before and they’re in the main event and people believe they can win in one week!’ It’s crazy to an extent, but that’s also the concept of pro wrestling, is get guys over. It isn’t hard to do. And it doesn’t mean, ‘he wins 15 weeks in a row.’ That doesn’t mean sh*t. It’s give you a chance to be you!”
Despite being a legend in wrestling, Hulk Hogan has been banned from AEW by Tony Khan due to his past comments that were made public. He made this banning order public notice when he commented on a racially-sensitive post by Hulk Hogan’s ex-wife, Linda Hogan, when he revealed that she was banned from AEW alongside Hulk Hogan
