AEW have suspended Eddie Kingston, revealing why he has been missing from AEW Dynamite for the last few weeks. The Mad King is one of the most popular wrestlers in AEW and was booked to wrestle against Sammy Guevara at All Out 2022, but a backstage altercation could have put that match in jeopardy.
A recent report by Fightful Select confirmed that Kingston was suspended some time in the last few weeks and that “at least one segment” to build up to his match vs Guevara at All Out had to be cancelled due to the suspension.
It was reported that the duo “developed heat” and that it “devolved into an altercation.” backstage at AEW Dynamite a few weeks ago. They then reported that “Guevara made a comment about Kingston’s physique, and Kingston took a swing at him”, although they were still trying to confirm any eye witness reports regarding the event.
However, the feud is continuing, as Sammy Geuvara and Tay Melo are taking on Ortiz and Ruby Soho on AEW Rampage this week. Eddie Kingston is good friends with both Ortiz and Soho and they will help carry the load for him in the feud if he is off TV until All Out 2022 in September.
“AEW hasn’t confirmed one way or another, but Eddie Kingston has been off television the last couple of weeks, with Fightful gaining word he was briefly suspended by the company.”
Guevara and Kingston have been feuding since Guevara helped Chris Jericho defeat Kingston on the July 20 edition of Rampage. Their All Out 2022 match was announced on August 3rd on Dynamite, but Kingston only made one more appearance before his suspension.
Eddie Kingston’s Suspension
Eddie Kingston commented on his suspension after being asked by PWInsider. The AEW star said about the reports of him attacking Sammy Guevara backstage;
“You know the truth. I wouldn’t lie. I was wrong for being unprofessional. That is the blind fact. He did what he did and the public can judge that but I know for a fact I was wrong.”
It is still unknown whether or not the suspension is a work or a shoot, with fans claiming both to be true before the pair face off at All Out 2022.
