On the 12th May, 2021 Miro won his first championship in AEW. Since debuting the previous year he had struggled to hold down a place on the AEW Dynamite card, having problems finding a character. First he tried the character of a “gamer”, a take on his outside role as a live streamer.
Once that ran it’s course he focused on being “The Best Man”. His best friend Kip Sabian was getting married and his job was to plan the wedding and be there for his friend.
This generally involved beating up people and buying him an arcade cabinet as a present. This was promptly destroyed by the Best Friends, starting a long feud between the two factions which culminated in the return of Kris Statlander and Trent after injury.
He was not taken seriously until he took on a more religious role.
Anointed as “God’s Favourite Champion”, Miro would show vignettes of him speaking to “his God”, asking him why he had forsaken him with a “neck of sand” and threatening to beat him up. It was awesome. With the help of the lord he got his mojo back and became a champion in AEW for the first time.
He defeated TNT Champion Darby Allin on AEW Dynamite on May 12th, 2021 to become the TNT Champion for the first time. After winning he went on a dominant run in the company, going undefeated until losing the championship months later.
It is considered one of the best TNT Championship runs since the title’s inception in 2020 and he is seen as potentially the best champion the title has ever seen.
