New Japan Pro Wrestling star Will Ospreay has made history as he has achieved a record number of five star matches in his short career. The English high-flyer now holds the record for having the most five-star matches awarded by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter of any non-Japanese wrestler.
He was awarded a 5.5 star rating by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer this week for his G1 Climax bout against Shingo Tagaki. Tagaki defeated Ospreay in an incredible match which wowed fans and put him on the top of the list of non-Japanese wrestlers to ever live.
Will Ospreay’s latest match was awarded over 5 stars to give him 20 matches rated 5 star or more, overtaking Canadian star Kenny Omega who currently since on 19. With Omega currently injured, it is likely that Ospreay will increase his lead and will comfortably be in the driving seat once his career is over, being only 29 years old.
Will Ospreay is a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He also wrestled in AEW as part of the Forbidden Door Pay Per View, where he defeated Orange Cassidy in a blockbuster match which was voted match of the night by Dave Meltzer.
