What did you think about Roman Reign’s debut in WWE?
Roman Reigns is one of the most polarizing figures in WWE history, although can deny the success he has had as the head of the table in WWE.
He has won countless championships, and held the Universal Championship for over two years and counting. He also became the Unified Champion at Wrestlemania 38, when he defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Champion.
Since his debut in 2012, he has been a top star in WWE, first as part of The Shield and then later as a singles star.
Since Roman Reigns debut he was viewed as a top star, making a huge impact when he and his Shield partners ruined the main event of Survivor Series 2012.
It was one of the most memorable debuts of all time and one that helped build a NXT trainee into a WWE superstar in a very short amount of time.
Roman Reigns’ Debut
Roman Reigns made his WWE debut at Survivor Series 2012, on November 18 2012, alongside his Shield teammates Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.
The trio from NXT attacked Ryback and John Cena, helping WWE Champion CM Punk to retain his championship in a triple threat main event.
Their attack allowed CM Punk to pin John Cena and extend his WWE Championship reign that would go on to last 434 days.
Roman Reigns had previously competed in the WWE developmental brand NXT, under the name Leakee.
He did not win the NXT Championship before his debut on the main roster, but Roman Reigns was developing as a top heel in the vein of Triple H during his spell in NXT.
Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were also in NXT, with Seth Rollins being the first ever NXT Champion.
The Trio made a huge impact upon their WWE debut, including Roman Reigns. Three unknowns coming into one of WWE’s biggest shows of the year and taking out top stars like Ryback and John Cena intrigued the fans and seemed to usher in a new era of WWE.
Three top stars in Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were made overnight, but it was not until The Shield’s debut match in WWE that we would get a proper glimpse at Roman Reigns in his first WWE match.
Roman Reigns’ Debut Match
Roman Reigns first match in WWE also came as part of The Shield. Roman Reigns debut match in WWE was the month after his debut, at TLC 2012 on 17 December 2012.
The match was a TLC match between The Shield vs Ryback and Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane), although the winner of the match would be decided by pin fall.
The match was one of the best WWE debuts ever, with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose showcasing talent that was missing on the main roster.
They came into WWE with a bang, fighting as hard as they could with some incredible bumps and crazy spots against three of WWE’s top stars.
The Shield were an unknown quantity, but became top stars that night when they defeat some of WWE’s best main event talent.
In an incredible match, Roman Reigns’ won the match with a top-rope powerbomb through a table on Daniel Bryan allowed him to pin The Dazzler and win his debut match in WWE.
Roman Reigns’ debut match in WWE ended in victory, and it was the start of a long and storied, and successful, career in WWE.
He has won multiple World Championships in WWE, main eventing Wrestlemania 6 times, three times against Brock Lesnar and once against Undertaker, Triple H and Daniel Bryan/Edge.
