WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has named Eddie Guerrero as the “most talented in-ring performer” in WWE history, in a recent episode of his hit podcast. The Mexican legend passed away in 2005, but touched the hearts of millions of fans by his gutsy performance, tremendous wrestling ability and his uncanny ability to lie, cheat and steal his way to victory in the ring.
Before his passing he was one of the top wrestlers in the WWE. Just a year prior, he had defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship, marking his one and only world championship victory of his 20 year career. However, his legacy lives, with chants of “Eddie, Eddie Eddie!” being heard around the arenas whenever somebody hits three consecutive suplexes.
On the most recent episode of “Grilling JR“, Jim Ross spoke to his co-host Conrad Thompson about many topics, one of them being about the legendary late Eddie Guerrero. He spoke about how’d never seen a more talented star than Guerrero and that he had been so good that his big break came in wrestling long after he deserved it.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a more talented in-ring performer than Eddie Guerrero. He had great matches, Conrad, with so many different guys in WWE when I was there. When I brought him in there, he had been waiting for this opportunity. He was hungry, he was angry, he’s p*ssed off all the time because he thought he had to wait too long to get his break, and I can’t disagree with that.”
It is not just Jim Ross who thinks that Eddie Guerrero is one of the all time greats. Former WWE and AEW Champion CM Punk wrestled Eddie Guerrero on numerous occasions during his career and considers him the greatest wrestler ever. He reportedly said;
“He’s the greatest wrestler, EVER. He’s better than Ric Flair. He’s better than Stone Cold. He’s better than me.”
Huge praise from a legend that shared the ring with him. If both CM Punk and Jim Ross say Eddie Guerrero is the greatest of all time then there must be some merit to the argument. With others like Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero and Chris Benoit all considering him one of the best, he truly has to be in the consideration for the greatest of all time,
