Former WCW Champion Jeff Jarrett is set to make his return to WWE this summer, being a part of a blockbuster championship match at Summerslam 2022.
The founder of TNA has not wrestled for WWE since 2019, when he lost to Elias in a 7 minute match on Monday Night Raw. However, he makes his big return at Summerslam 2022, but not in a wrestling capacity as you might expect.
In a blockbuster tag team championship match, The Uso’s will defend their WWE Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits, in a rematch from Money in the Bank, after Angelo Dawkins pinned Jimmy Uso in singles action to earn his team the title match on Friday Night Smackdown.
After the match, Adam Pearce walked out onto the stage announced that Jeff Jarrett was returning to WWE at Summerslam in an exciting role in the tag team title match – as the special guest referee.
This announcement was then followed up by a video package, retelling all the best moments from Jarrett’s career, introducing the modern audience to the former WCW, NWA and TNA World Champion.
Jeff Jarrett last wrestled in January this year, when he took on Effy as part of GCW’s The WRLD on GCW 2022. He defeated the LGBT star in 11 minutes in a surprise victory, and one which has yet to be followed up on by the promotion.
It is unknown whether Jeff Jarrett’s return will result in his stepping inside the ring again. The 55 year old still wrestles occasionally and has looked good in recent appearances, so another run is not off the table. He is only 8 years younger than AEW’s Sting, so still has a number of years left as a semi-regular wrestler in the promotion.
