Ric Flair’s return to the ring has not come without it’s critics. Former referee Brian Hebner asked Flair “what the f*** are you thinking“, and others have applauded Ricky Steamboat for staying retired amid rumours of facing Ric Flair in his return to wrestling.
However, Ric Flair has defended his return to the ring at 73 years old. When most would sat at home doing some gardening while collecting their pension, the Nature Boy has never been one to do things conventially.
Known for his “limousine riding” and “jet flying”, Ric Flair has always lived it large and lived it in the ring. As the 16 time (or more if you believe the man himself) World Champion, the Nature Boy has seen and done it all in the wrestling ring in a career that spanned nearly 50 years.
He aims to extend that even more in his old age, with a match set for July 31st 2022 in Nashville, Tenesse. The match will take place at the Nashville Fairgrounds as part of the Starrcade V event taking place in the area.
While Ric Flair’s last match was against Sting in TNA 11 years ago, he wants his final goodbye to be in 2022 at the age of 73. With rumours of a 6 man tag match featuring AEW stars FTR, fan interest in this match has gone for curious to car-crash levels of intruige.
People are rightly concerned over Ric Flair’s health for his in-ring return. However, Flair has assured the fans that he is fit and heathy for one last go in the ring…
Ric Flair return
Ric Flair’s return to the ring has fans on edge, but the Nature Boy has assured everyone that he is in good shape for the final bout in his career.
Flair was interviewed by TMZ Sports recently, and spoke about how he has seen 40 different doctors in his bid to return to the ring and he is feeling after a hard 50 year career as a professional wrestler.
“I don’t have any aches or pains,” Flair said of his physical well-being. “I know I’ve had the health issues, but I asked 40 different doctors, and I decided I’m only gonna listen to one. Not necessarily the one that was gonna give me the right answer, but that I felt the most comfortable with.
“I couldn’t stand the last couple of matches I had, Flair said. “Couldn’t stand the last year I had. I needed someone to motivate me. And, what motivates me is doing something I like to do, and that’s wrestle.
Fans are right to be weary of Ric Flair’s health amid his final return to wrestling. He almost died in 2019 after a lifetime of partying and travelling on the rode finally caught up with him.
The Nature Boy survived the ordeal but fans thought that he would finally take it easy in retirement and enjoy the rest of his life in peace. However, Ric Flair is the Nature Boy and never does the convential. I fully expect his return to the ring to have all the classic Ric Flair trimmings and for him to put his all into one final match despite being 73 years of age.
Please don’t die in the ring, Ric Flair.
