WWE Legend Triple H has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling. The 52 year old 14 time WWE champion has been out of action in WWE both in front and behind the screen after a cardiac event in September 2021 sent him to hospital. However, in a recent interview, he has revealed the full extent of the attack, and revealed that there were moments where he thought he was going to die.
“For me, as far as in-ring, which I get a lot, I’m done,” Triple H said in an interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith. He also revealed he now has a defibrillator in his chest and will not risk his wellbeing, in case of leaving his daughters fatherless.
“I won’t – I would never wrestle again. First, I have a defibrillator in my chest. Which, it’s probably not a good idea for me to get zapped on live TV.”
The game then revealed he suffered from viral pneumonia, and that he had flued fill his lungs and heart. He then suffered from heart failure, and came painfully close to death whilst he lay in a hospital bed.
He teared up talking about leaving his daughters, and how almost dying has changed his perspective on life. They were the main reasons he has retired from the ring, both to protect his own health and to not leave his wife or daughters alone without him.
Triple H has been absent behind the scenes as well as in the ring, with control of his NXT brand being given to his best friend and former tag team partner Shawn Michaels. It us unknown if he will return to his duties once he fully recovers from his harrowing experience.
Whilst Triple H never got the wrestle a match in NXT, he did managed to wrestle in the ring with three former NXT Champions for his final ever wrestling match.
Triple H’s Last WWE Match
Triple H’s last match in Japan, where he teamed with Shinsuke Nakamura to take on Samoa Joe and Bobby Roode. All four men were champions in NXT and were signed for the brand by Triple H, so it was oddly fitting that they all be involved in his final ever wrestling match.
The match took place in Tokyo on June 29, 2019. The event was a WWE house show which emanated from Ryōgoku Sumo Hall, and saw the team of hometown hero Shinsuke Nakamura and Triple H defeated Bobby Roode and Samoa Joe to send the crowd home happy.
This was the last ever match Triple H had in his career before announcing his retirement on March 25, 2022. His last ever singles match was against Randy Orton at WWE Super Show Down in Saudi Arabia, in which Randy Orton picked up the victory against his former Evolution team mate.
