A match on Raw harkened back to the moment when Seth Rollins injured Finn Balor, back in 2015.

During their match on Monday Night Raw this past week, Finn Balor lifted Rollins into the air and delivered a devastating powerbomb onto the barricade, outside the ring.

The barricade powerbomb is not usually part of the Irishman’s arsenal, but he sprung for the move in this match for one very good reason – it was the move that ruined his biggest run in WWE.

Seth Rollins Injured Finn Balor

Seth Rollins injured Finn Balor at Summerslam 2016, during their Universal Championship match.

Finn Balor was a new call-up to the WWE main roster, after a record-breaking NXT Championship reign that was ended by Samoa Joe.

He was brought up to Raw with the WWE draft, and immediately placed at the top of the card, and placed in the mini-tournament to crown the first Universal Champion.

Finn Bálor won the first qualifier by defeating Cesaro, Kevin Owens, and Rusev, while Reigns won the second by defeating Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn, and Sheamus.

Bálor then defeated Reigns and was added to the title match at SummerSlam against Seth Rollins, who had recently lost the WWE Championship to Dean Ambrose.

The match at Summerslam 2016 was heavily anticipated by the fans, but it was soon ruined. Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley revealed the brand new, bright red Universal Championship prior to the match, and it was so ugly that it was all the fans could focus on.

Wanting to get them back on track, Rollins and Balor (in his demon person) did their best to excite the crowd. This is where Seth Rollins injured Finn Balor.

Rollins hit Balor with a powerbomb onto the barricade outside of the ring, a move he usually hit on the turnbuckle. As he hit, Balor tore his shoulder off the bone, an injury that would keep him out for nearly a year.

Ever the professional Finn Balor finished the match and won the Universal Championship. Sadly, he was forced to relinquish the title the next night on Raw, ending his title reign on just 22 hours.

Still fresh on his mind 7 years later, Finn Balor showed Seth Rollins on Raw just what the career-derailing injury meant to him,

Finn Balor Got His Revenge On Raw

On the May 8th, 2023 episode of Monday Night Raw, Finn Balor finally got revenge over Seth Rollins for injuring him all those years ago.

In the main event of the show, the pair faced off for a chance to compete for the new World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions.

During the match, Balor hit the barricade powerbomb on Rollins, avenging the move that put him out of action many years ago.

However, Seth Rollins was not injured by the move, and went on the win the match and the title opportunity.

Seth Rollins will go on to Night of Champions to face the winner of the Smackdown bracket, with the winner of that match being crowned the first ever World Heavyweight Champion.
