Michelle McCool is in the running for the greatest WWE Diva of all time and her accolades speak for themselves. She won all the titles available to her and had one of the greatest all-diva teams in WWE history, teaming with Layla as LayCool.

In this article, we will look at Michelle McCool’s last match and her shock return 12 years after hanging up her wrestling boots for good.

Michelle McCool’s Last Match

What happened to Michelle McCool

Michelle McCool’s last match as a full-time wrestler came at Extreme Rules 2011. She was in the midst of a legendary storyline in the women’s division, feature an iconic title reign with Layla as “LayCool” and the subsequent breakup and feud.

The rivalry came to a head at Extreme Rules 2011. Layla battled Michelle McCool in a loser leaves WWE match. This meant that the loser of the bout would be fired from the company, ideally never to return (although that is never how these things work out in reality).

Layla won the match at Extreme Rules by pin fall, ending McCool’s legendary run in the company. She had become a legend of the ring in that time, being the best part of the women’s division for a number of years. She also won both the WWE Women’s Championship and the Divas Champion, a accomplishment very few women have managed over their careers.

After the match, Michelle McCool was attacked by Kharma, who was known in TNA as Awesome Kong. She was laid out by the monster and was not seen on WWE TV more many years, retiring once the match was over.

She since returned for some select appearances, most recently in the 2023 Royal Rumble match in spectacular fashion.

Michelle McCool Returned In The 2023 Royal Rumble

Despite being retired from the ring officially for many years, Michelle McCool’s last match so far was as part of the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble match.

The former WWE Divas Champion was pictured at ringside during the event, taking in the action with her children sitting next to her in the front. Conspicuously absent was her husband, WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker, who did not appear at the event.

She was shown on screen during the Alexa Bliss vs Bianca Belair match. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, as it was customary for the WWE to show former stars in the audience enjoying themselves, popping the crowd to see legends they did not expect.

During the Women’s Royal Rumble match, the clock began to count down from 10. As the number 25 entrant was due to enter, the familiar music of Michelle McCool hit. The camera turned to her in the crowd, looking shocked.

Michelle McCool entered the match not dressed for a fight. She had her plain clothes, a crop top and trousers, on and was wearing ugg boots – hardly suitable footwear for a wrestling match.

She did well in her appearance. She eliminated Tamina and Nia Jax before being thrown out by the eventually winner, Rhea Ripley. She lasted nearly 14 minutes in the match, an impressive total for a retired wrestler who wasn’t even dressed to compete.
