AEW Collision Star Ratings (7/29/23) – FTR vs MJF/Adam Cole

Here are all the star ratings for the July 29th, 2023 episode of AEW Collision.

We will give our own verdict on the matches, as well as the star ratings given by Dave Meltzer, and the match ratings from Cagematch.

Any matches not included were not given a star rating by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer

Andrade vs Buddy Matthews (4 Stars)

Buddy Matthews and Andrade had one of the best ladder matches in AEW history on Collision, when Andrade El Idolo won his mask back from the House of Black.

Some huge bumps from the ladders happened in this match, including Andrade throwing Julia Hart off the ladder, onto Matthews and through a table.

It was awarded 4 stars by Dave Meltzer, ranking it among the best matches in AEW Collision history.

  • Dave Meltzer Star Rating – 4 Stars
  • Cagematch Rating – 8.02
  • Atletifo Rating – 3 Stars

Darby Allin vs Minoru Suzuki (3.5 Stars)

Answering Darby Allin’s open challenge this week was the shocking return of Minoru Suzuki.

He also appeared on Rampage, as a surprise guest in the “Royal Rampage” match, failing to win a TNT title show.

Suzuki had a fun match with Allin, wrestling in the typical “Suzuki-style” match, with the added bonus of Darby Allin flying around, with no regard for his own health.

Darby Allin won the match, and seems to be on the way to team with Sting and Nick Wayne at All In, against Mogul Embassy.

  • Dave Meltzer Star Rating – 3.5 Stars
  • Cagematch Rating – 6.91
  • Atletifo Rating – 3 Stars

FTR vs MJF & Adam Cole

FTR continued their string of fantastic title defenses when they beat Adam Cole and MJF in the main event of Collision.

Despite the power of friendship prevailing, AEW Collision’s main event could only garner a 4.25 star rating from Dave Meltzer.

As all MJF matches go, there was a bit of everything. Fantastic action, dastardly heel work, with a sprinkle of comedic wrestling – as well as his unmatched brand of selling.

MJF ate the pin from Dax Harwood, who grabbed the tights and cheated his way to victory. This should earn him a title shot at MJF, although only after he defends the AEW Championship against Adam Cole at All In.

  • Dave Meltzer Star Rating – 4.25 Stars
  • Cagematch Rating – 8.23
  • Atletifo Rating – 4 Stars
