Updated on:

NXT Great American Bash 2023 was broadcast on July 30th, 2023 from the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Austin, Texas.

It is the fourth time NXT have used the Great American Bash name for their shows, and the eleventh time the WWE have used the pay per view name.

This page will detail Dave Meltzer’s star ratings for NXT The Great American Bash 2023, looking at every match on the card.

We will also detail the Cagematch rating for the event, as well as give our own Atletifo Star rating for the event.

Cagematch is a website that aggregates fans opinions on pro-wrestling matches.

Fans can log on after an event, ranking the matches on a scale of one to ten – the site then calculates an average score for the match to be displayed.

Great matches can expect a 9+ rating while the worst matches may not even be worth giving a rating to at all.

Only matches over 5 minutes may be rated on the website. This means fantastic, yet shorter matches like KENTA vs Ricky Marvin will not be given a rating but that does not mean they are bad bouts.

In something that seemed impossible just two years earlier, AEW met NJPW in a joint show that pitted AEW stars against the NJPW wrestlers in a battle between the two companies.

The highest rated match NXT match on the site is Johnny Gargano vs Andrade Almas from NXT Takeover: Philadelphia.

Gable Steveson vs Baron Corbin

Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson finally made his debut in the WWE, years after being drafted to Monday Night Raw.

He took on Baron Corbin at NXT Great American Bash 2023, in a bout that showed some huge potential from the young star.

However, the crowd thoroughly rejected Steveson, likely stemming from his legal issues over the past few years.

They cheered for Corbin throughout the match, booing Gable Steveson throughout the entirety of his debut.

The NXT crowd also humorously chanted “You’re not Angle” (referencing Kurt Angle), in one of the funniest moments of NXT’s The Great American Bash 2023.

The Russian came close to winning his first NXT Championship, but despite his incredible performance could not put away Carmelo Hayes.

Hayes retained his NXT Championship in one of the best matches in WWE history.

However, Dave Meltzer only rated the match at a 4.75 Star rating, despite the overwhelming response to the bout by the users on Cagematch.
