John Cena’s return match at WrestleMania 39 ended in defeat, as he lost to United States Champion Austin Theory, in controversial circumstances.
The match opened the show on the first night of WrestleMania, and signalled Cena’s first ‘Mania match in front of a crowd since his bout with Undertaker at WrestleMania 34.
Austin Theory won the bout after hitting Cena with a low blow, before hitting the A-Town Down and pinning the 16 time champion for the victory.
This came as a huge shock, with Cena being a huge star compared to the US Champion. The future is uncertain for John Cena, with this match looking like his last ever match in the WWE.
John Cena entered the match with a host of Make-A-Wish kids, whose last wish was to come to see him at WrestleMania 39.
While they got to come onto the stage with their hero, they also watched him taste defeat in one of the most highly anticipated matches on the card.
