The former ROH man has been retired for six years, despite signing for AEW in 2019.
In this article, we’ll look at his last ever match, his final outing in Ring of Honor and explore whether he has wrestled for AEW at all in his legendary career.
BJ Whitmer’s Last Match
BJ Whitmer’s last match took place in 2017, after leaving Ring of Honor following an extended run in the company.
He wrestled for the Cleveland-based Absolute Intense Wrestling, a small, locla promotion he has been known to wrestle for over the years.
In BJ Whitmer’s last match, he lost to Dominic Garrini in the middle of the card. Little is known about this match, other than it was the final match of his long career.
The show in question took place on March 24th, 2017 in an event called “AIW Gauntlet for the Gold 12“. The show also featured AEW’s Eddie Kingston vs former WWE star Hornswoggle.
His Last ROH Match Was Against Three WWE Wrestlers
In his last ROH match, BJ Whitmer and Punishment Martinez defeated War Machine.
After the match Martinez turned on Whitmer, hitting him with South of Heaven and sending him packing from ROH for good (as an on-screen wrestler).
He retired soon after this match, which took place on the February 11th, 2017 episode of Ring of Honor.
All the other men in the match went on to become WWE superstars. Punishment Martinez now wrestles as Damian Priest, as part of the Judgement Day stable in the WWE.
Meanwhile, Hanson and Rowe now wrestle as Ivar and Erik, who team together as The Viking Raiders in the WWE.
Did BJ Whitmer Wrestle For AEW?
Despite being signed to the company for four years, BJ Whitmer never wrestled for AEW.
The former ROH star retired following his last match in 2017, instead moving into working backstage. He worked as a producer and a trainer in ROH’s developmental promotion.
However, Whitmer left the promotion on December 20, 2018. He mentioned that the departure was down to ROH not letting him work at WWE’s Performance Center as a guest trainer.
He then signed for AEW in 2019, in the early days of the promotion. He joined fellow ROH stars like The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes, being hired as a backstage producer in the company.
