Chris Jericho Reveals Origins Of “Little Bit Of The Bubbly” In AEW

Chris Jericho‘s “A little bit of the bubbly” took the wrestling world by storm in 2019.

Following his AEW Championship win in at All Out 2019, Jericho celebrated with some champagne backstage, which he christened “a little bit of the bubbly”.

This took off online, with memes and song being made with this soundbite.

It became a huge part of Jericho’s gimmick, with AEW even selling his own “bubbly” to fans who wanted to support the first ever AEW Champion.

The moment seemed to have come out of nowhere at random. It looked like a moment of creative genius by Jericho, who explained the thinking behind the now-famous phrase.

Chris Jericho On A Little Bit Of The Bubbly’s Origin

Speaking on an live episode of Talk is Jericho from Glasgow, Chris Jericho revealed the movie that inspired him to say the immortal line, “A Little Bit Of The Bubbly”.

“I’d love to be able to say I’m such a genius and every single thing I’ve gotten over is a plan. Before, you’d knew something was getting over because the crowd would full signs.”

“Nowadays, the signs in the crowd are Twitter and Instagram, and the responses that you get.”

“A little bit of the bubbly – we were backstage in Chicago, and we had to kill some time because they wanted a shot of me walking through the crowd, insulting people and getting into my room, where I would then pour some champagne on some unsuspecting stagehand, to show what a pompous jerk Chris Jericho is.”

He then mentioned how the microphone kept not working, so he had to do the take multiple times before production confirmed it was okay to show on TV.

“I’m walking through the back for the third time, and I get into the dressing room. I haven’t been there yet, and they said ‘you’re gonna have a spread, liek a championship spread’.

If you remember, I walk in there and there’s a vegetable platter and a bottle of champagne. I remember thinking ‘This is the spread worthy of a champion?’

I go in there, and there’s two lines that really popped myself. The first was olives – “there’s a little guy in there”, Nigel Tufnall from Spinal Top. Nobody cared about that one.

Then, Dumb and Dumber – Jim Carey said at one point ” A little bit of the bubbly” then shot an owl with the cork.

Just amusing myself with the lines, and that’s it. I pour champagne on the unsuspecting stagehand. The next day, there were hundreds of memes about ‘A little bit of the bubbly.'”

Chris Jericho sold thousands of bottles of “The Bubbly” over the years, and the champagne played a key part in his AEW career so far.
