Chris Jericho Wants A Painmaker Movie After Comic Release

Chris Jericho does not want to stop with his Painmaker character after the release of his first graphic novel – next, he wants the Painmaker movie!

The former AEW Champion is releasing his first ever graphic novel, based upon his wrestling alter-ego that he has used in both AEW and NJPW.

He debuted the character for his match against Kazuchika Okada in NJPW, with the name Painmaker taking inspiration from his own nickname (The Rainmaker).

The gimmick, which was inspired by Bruiser Brody, is being adapted into a new graphic novel, with the comic takign a huge twist on the character.

While the alter-ego is ostensibly just Chris Jericho in a spiky jacket and face paint, the Painmaker comic will explore another side you did expect – the side of an intergalactic serial killer.

Chris Jericho spoke to The Critical Drinker, and discussed his upcoming Painmaker graphic novel, and revealed his ambition to make a movie about the character.

I thought, with the Painmaker, if we start with the NFTs and the graphic novels and create a backstory where he’s an Intergalactic serial killer that reforms himself but still has a deep desire to kill innocent people, we can explore a fantastic world where he’s scouring the Galaxy for other serial killers to battle and kill them.

Now, I’ve got something I can play with. Sooner or later, I’ll do it, dude. I’ll create a Painmaker movie and at least give you an option of something other than the same ones you see over and over again, with a compelling story and a whole new world to dive into.

Honestly, when it comes to movies like this, I would rather go down a darker and edgier path, doing something really interesting. If that’s the better option, I’d love to see it.
