CM Punk vs Floyd Mayweather Is Next Huge Exhibition Match

With CM Punk‘s return to AEW set for June, in Chicago, we look forward to one of the biggest matches the company could put on – CM Punk vs Floyd Mayweather.

Wrestling has never been one to shy away from sportspersons fighting in the ring. Muhammad Ali famously fought Antonio Inoki in the 1970s, with a reported 1 billion people catching the match.

Floyd Mayweather himself has even wrestled, in the WWE. He fought The Big Show in a huge match at WrestleMania 24, defeating the giant in his first wrestling match ever.

AEW has also booked celebrities before, with Mike Tyson and Shaquille O’Neil both stepping into the ring for the promotion.

If a semi-retired, undefeated champion in Floyd Mayweather wanted to step into the ring again, a match against CM Punk would be the biggest one he could do, on the new Saturday evening TV show set to take over TBS this June.

Mayweather has shown his willingness to branch out from the usual boxing he did.

He took on celebrities like Connor McGregor and Logan Paul in exhibition matches, as well as taking on kickboxing champions in mixed-rules matches all over the world.

If the money is big enough, Floyd Mayweather would definitely face off against CM Punk.

But would it be in AEW, or in the UFC?

CM Punk vs Floyd Mayweather

The match between CM Punk and Floyd Mayweather had been discussed before, but not to take place in the wrestling ring.

Instead, the fight was suggested to take place in the Octagon, with a UFC fight being the rules for the bout.

CM Punk had previously dabbled in MMA, taking on two fights in the UFC during his off-time from pro-wrestling.

He fought twice in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, despite having limited experience and being in his late 30s.

He was a big draw though, and many wrestling fans bought the fight to get a first glimpse of CM Punk for the first time since leaving the WWE in 2014.

He fought (and lost) twice in the UFC, facing off with Micky Gall and Mike Jackson, in disappointing fashion.

The CM Punk vs Floyd Mayweather fight was discussed by UFC commentator and podcasting icon Joe Rogan, on an episode of his hit podcast.

In an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan talked about CM Punk fighting Floyd Mayweather in the UFC, thinking that Mayweather would pick up the win, despite his inexperience compared to Punk.

He cites Floyd’s speed and footwork as his strengths, although if CM Punk were to get him to the ground, then it would be more of a fight.

“It’s also possible Floyd could win. Because Floyd is still one of the best boxers of all time, if not the best. Still an elite athlete. Still light speed in there.

With his footwork, his movement and his head movement. He’s so fast. And he’s catching you right on the chin, blap, and you can’t do s**t about it. You’re trying to close the distance and he’s stutter stepping and he’s moving right in front of you. And CM Punk is not like the best kicker in the world I’d buy it!”
