The incredible three-way Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania 39 has been awarded a five-star match rating – and was thoroughly deserved.
On the second night of WrestleMania 39, one of the best matches in WWE history took place between three giants of European wrestling.
Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER defended his title against former WWE Champions’ Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, in what turned out to be the match of the night.
That match was awarded five stars, the first of Sheamus career. Now McIntyre has joined the five star club, with the second five star match on an incredible WrestleMania 39.
GUNTHER vs Sheamus vs Drew McIntyre was a hard-hitting, no holds barred brawl. Neither man held back, with the bulk of the match comprised of slaps and chops to each others’ chest.
This has become a GUNTHER trademark, but he took it as good as he gave in this 5 star match, which stole the show on night 2 of WrestleMania.
GUNTHER won the match and retained his title. He powerbombed Sheamus onto the neck on Drew McIntyre, before giving the Scot another big powerbomb to pin him and end the match.
This match was given a five star rating by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
