Dave Meltzer has awared his first ever 5 star match for the main event of WrestleMania.
The two night WrestleMania 39 has had mixed reviews, with fans incredibly happy with the first night, but with night two leaving them with a feeling of missing out.
The main event of Night 2 was Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns, which earned a 4.75 star rating from Dave Meltzer. With a better finish (Cody Rhodes inexplicably lost the match), I’ve no doubt it would have been pushed up to a 5 star rating.
Meanwhile, the main event of the first night was given the huge 5 star match raring.
Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens vs The Usos was the first WrestleMania main event to gain the five star match rating.
This was revealed by Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Obseerver Newsletter, where he aslo revealed his star ratings for shows like Supercard of Honor and NXT Stand and Deliver.
Five Star WrestleMania Main Event
The first ever five star match from Dave Meltzer to main event WrestleMania is Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens vs The Usos, in the end of the first night at WrestleMania 39.
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens main evented the first night of WrestleMania 39 Night 1, in a history-making tag team bout against The Usos.
The huge victory in the main event of WrestleMania was the culmination of a multi-decade long story, that saw the pair go from the dank gyms in Montreal, all the way to the main event of WrestleMania.
From their tag teams and battles as Kevin Steen and El Generico, all the way to their triumph over The Usos, the two Canadian’s career have been intertwined, with this being the perfect way for them to end WrestleMania 39.
For only the second time, a tag team match was the last match of a WrestleMania show.
The first was at WrestleMania 1, when Hulk Hogan teamed with Mr T to take on Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff.
Sami Zayn teamed with Kevin Owens in the WrestleMania 39 Night 1 main event, which was Zayn’s first, and Kevin’s second, time in the last match on the show.
This is the last time Kevin Owens main evented WrestleMania, and this article will be updated if he main events any more WrestleMania events.
Sami Zayn, along with Kevin Owens, also ran in to the main event of WrestleMania 39, Night 2, assisting Cody Rhodes to fight off the Usos in his match against Roman Reigns.
