Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Make PWG Reference At WrestleMania 39

It has been a long road to the main event of WrestleMania for Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn.

The pair have teamed together, and feuded with each other, throughout the decade since they signed with the company.

They made their name first in Pro-Wrestling Guerrilla, an independent wrestling company in California. This is not far from the location of WrestleMania 39.

They wrestled as Kevin Steen and El Generico, respectively, in the promotion, and had many incredible matches over the years of teaming together, and being each others greatest rival.

In the main event of WrestleMania 39, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens wrestled against The Usos, vying to win the WWE Tag Team Championships for the first time in their WWE careers.

However, the duo formerly known as Steenerico paid tribute to their history in PWG, by referencing the promotion with an image on their ring gear.

Both men had a gold image of the PWG Gorilla, which is on the companies logo, on their shorts/trousers for the match.

On Kevin Owens shorts, the logo was above the word “Fight”, whilst Sami Zayn’s was above Arabic text, which has yet to be translated. Zayn is of Syrian ancestry, and has used his heritage as part of his character for years,

The WrestleMania 39 Night 1 main event was the first time the WWE Tag Team Championships have main evented WrestleMania, and only the second time a tag team match has been in the main event.
