Nigel McGuinness: Return To The Ring Would Be “Amazing”

Nigel McGuinness has recently spoken about a potential return to the ring, deeming the concept “amazing”.

The English star was released by the WWE in 2022, although he never wrestled for the company. He almost signed with the promotion in 2009, although injuries meant that the deal fell through.

He was known as one of the best wrestlers in the world during his prime, wrestling for ROH and TNA. However, he was forced to retire due to Hepatitis B 2013.

He moved behind the commentary desk in ROH, before signing for the WWE in 2016. He helmed the commentary team in NXT and NXT UK, but was released last year without making it to the main roster.

McGuinness is set for an upcoming show titled ‘CELEBRATION: The Magic of Nigel McGuinness – ONE NIGHT ONLY!. This will combine him telling tales from his time in the ring, as well as magic tricks and other illusions.

McGuinness promoted the show during his appearance on the Two Man Power Trip Podcast, where he also talked about whether he would ever wrestle again.

When asked about potentially stepping into the ring again, Nigel McGuiness claimed that it would be “amazing” to come out of retirement, although the issue would be that he wouldn’t be able to step away from the ring again.

That’s the million dollar question isn’t it? Exactly, yeah. Everybody’s asked me that as soon as I went my separate ways from WWE as well. I can’t give a definitive answer other than to say that I certainly feel my strengths at this point in my life are in other aspects of the industry but I wouldn’t rule it out 100 percent either, you know?

“There’s always that part of you that wants to have that final moment but sometimes, cooler and smarter heads have to prevail. So, it’s a cliché of course just to never say never.

See a lot of people, Edge, Lita, Trish (Stratus) of course, a lot of people come back and have really, really good matches and have a really positive influence on the industry and in a way they are able to help the next generation.

I think that’s fantastic so, only time will tell what really happens from here. I got a lot of strings to my boat. Getting ready to fire.

“It would be amazing to me (if I returned to the ring). Someone said to me when I was actually at WWE, they said, ‘You know, Nigel, I bet you could get in the ring tomorrow.’ I said, ‘Absolutely. I’m just not sure if I could get back out.’”

Nigel McGuinness became famous after his matches with Bryan Danielson in Ring of Honor, which were praised as one of the best matches in the promotions’ history.

In May, Nigel is scheduled to appear for PROGRESS Wrestling at their Super Strong Style 16 show.
