Orange Cassidy has fired back at criticism from Jim Cornette, claiming that he is “not wrestling” for Cornette’s enjoyment.
The AEW star has been on a tear in the past year, defending his AEW International Championship 31 times before dropping it to Jon Moxley at All Out 2023.
This was his first pay per view main event in AEW, to complete a meteoric rise from an unsigned comedy character to one of the most popular men in AEW.
However, he has drawn criticism from Jim Cornette for his wrestling, with his unorthodox style drawing the ire of the legendary manager.
Cornette has taken to calling Cassidy “pockets” on his podcast, referencing his wrestling with his hands in his pockets. He has also insulted and criticized Cassidy, and is seemingly not a big fan of him.
However, Orange Cassidy had something to say about that.
When asked if the criticism from old-timers like Jim Cornette affected him, Orange Cassidy said that it did not, because “I’m not wrestling for you”.
Sounding fully in character, he claimed that he doesn’t care what they think, because he’s wrestling for himself and the AEW audience that loves him.
Speaking with Inside the Ropes, Orange Cassidy said:
“No, because I am who I am. This is what I’ve been, this is what I do, this is what I’ve been doing. If you don’t like it, then you don’t like it. I don’t care because I’m not gonna stop just because this person doesn’t like it. Who cares? I’m not wrestling for you. So, the answer to that question is no.”
