Paul Heyman Says Cody Rhodes Is Bigger Star After Losing At WrestleMania

Paul Heyman has broken his silence on the controversial WrestleMania 39, and argued that it actually made Cody Rhodes a bigger star than if he had won the match.

Cody Rhodes took on Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 39, ending night two with an electric Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match.

While it looked like The American Nightmare had the match, and the titles, in the bag, interference from Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa cost him, and he was hit with a spear by Roman Reigns to lose the bout.

While many fans have been left dejected by the result, The Bloodline’s Paul Heyman had a different view on the ending of the match.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani for BT Sports, the Wise Man revealed that the result was “storytelling at its very best”, and has moved the story onto being the redemption of Cody Rhodes.

He claims that this loss makes fans more behind Cody Rhodes, and will make his eventual title win even bigger.

“I can’t wait to see the next chapter and the response tonight to Cody Rhodes. It was louder than the response last week, which was already passionate, but this week’s audience believes in Cody Rhodes more than ever before.

Last week they hung their hopes and dreams on him, and he didn’t disappoint them. We disappointed them. Roman Reigns took that away from Cody Rhodes and the audience, and they blame him for it.

But they appreciate how close Cody came and they know that the next time he steps in the ring with Roman Reigns, this will be the one.

That’s the business. That’s promotion and storytelling at its very best. You want to challenge Cody to come out as a bigger star than he would have been if he had won the championship, because then where do you go from there? But now you know the story. It’s Cody’s Redemption. He’s coming back from the defeat that he suffered, which he didn’t deserve to have inflicted upon him.”

It looks like Cody Rhodes will be taking on Brock Lesnar soon enough, possibly in the main event of Backlash, in Puerto Rico.

It remains to be seen whether the loss has slowed his momentum, given how much fans were behind him in the lead up to, and during, the WrestleMania 39 main event match.
